Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene polymorphism in Taiwanese patients with gout.

Title: Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene polymorphism in Taiwanese patients with gout.

In this study, the author wanted to examine whether the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) gene can serve as a genetic “marker” for gout. (Editor’s note: a genetic marker for gout means that if the person has this marker, he or she is more likely to have inherited a tendency to develop gout).

The authors enrolled 109 Taiwanese patients with gout and 103 healthy control subjects. After conducting a DNA study, they found that the IL-1Ra gene has no relationship to gout.
