Azithromycin and Doxycycline for Acne

Title: Comparison of efficacy of azithromycin vs. doxyclycline in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

In this study, 51 patients were randomly divided into two groups, one would receive 500mg/day of azithromycin antibiotics and the other doxycyline antibiotics. At the end of the study period, the authors found improvements in acne in both groups, with no significant difference between the two. Observed side effects of azithromycin include
diarrhea, whereas side effects of doxycyline include photosensitivity (increased skin’s sensitivity to light).
