Retinoids is a class of drugs used to inhibit comedo or acne
lesion formation and suppress the acne-causing Propionibacterium
acnes. To increase efficacy of acne treatment, combination of
agents can be used – however, with increased side effects.
To increase tolerance to combination theapy, the authors suggested
using new retinoids called adapalene, using new delivery system
such as the tritenoin microsphere delivery system, and using alternative
dosing schedules such as prescribing it for only a short period
or taking the medications every other day.
