Laser for Acne Scar

Title: Comparison of a 1,064 nm laser and a 1,320 nm laser for the nonablative treatment of acne scars
Authors:
Yaghmai D., et al
Publication: Dermatol Surg. 2005 Aug;31(8 Pt 1):903-9.

The authors wanted to test the effectiveness of two forms of neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet or Nd:YAG lasers (one with 1,064 nm wavelength and another with 1,320 nm wavelength) in treating acne scars. In this study, they used laser 3 times at a 4-week intervals on 12 patients and evaluated the results by comparing photos before and 6-months after the treatment).

The authors found that both lasers are safe with no long-term side effects. The 1,064 nm laser is lightly more effective at 28% reduction of acne scars, as compared to 22% with the 1,320 nm wavelength.
