Granulysin-derived Peptides for Acne Bacteria

Title: Granulysin-derived peptides demonstrate antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects against Propionibacterium acnes.
Authors:
McInturff JE et al.
Publication: J Invest Dermatol. 2005 Aug;125(2):256-63.

In this study, the authors showed that the granulysin, an enzyme produced by immune cells, along with a synthetic form of the enzyme, can kill the acne-causing bacteria Propionium acnes in test tubes. The synthetic form of granulysin also has increased antibacterial activity, and may have anti-inflammatory activities. The authors suggested that synthetic granulysin may be a viable anti-acne treatment.
