Hidradenitis Suppurativa is Acne Inversa

Title: “Hidradenitis suppurativa” is acne inverse! An appeal to (finally) abandon a misnomer.
Authors:
Sellheyer K, Krahl D.
Publication: Int J Dermatol. 2005 Jul;44(7):535-40.

The authors note that a skin condition called “hidradenitis suppurativa” is actually not a suppurative or pus-filled inflammation of the sweat glands, but rather inflammation of hair follicles similar to acne vulgaris (the common acne). Therefore, they suggest that dermatologists use the term “acne inverse” instead.
