Side Effects of Isotretinoin in Acne Patients

Title: Side effect symptoms of treatment with isotretinoin in patients with acne
Authors:
Bergler-Czop B., Brzenzinska-Wchislo L.
Publication: Pol Merkuriusz Lek. 2005 Jun;18(108):680-5.

The authors assessed the side effects of patients suffering from severe acne that were prescribed isotretinoin over the span of 10 years between 1991 and 2000 in the Department of Dermatology, Silesian Medical School in Katowice, Poland.

The authors found that they could find statistically significant occurrences of side effects in patients treated with oral isotretinoin versus those who are treated with only topical preparations. These side effects are more frequent in men, and include skin irritations and biochemical dysfunctions. However, these side effects were not serious enough to warrant stopping the treatment.
