Toll-like Receptors in the Development of Acne

Title: The role of toll-like receptors in the pathophysiology of acne
Authors:
McInturff JE, Kim J.
Publication: Semin Cutan Med Surg. 2005 Jun;24(2):73-8.

The authors note that since the skin is an important component of the body’s immune system, drug development could exploit the ability of the immune system’s toll-like receptors (or TLRs), which are found in the cell membranes, to recognize acne causing bacteria.
