NF-kB and Activator Protein-1 in Acne
Title: Inflammation and extracellular matrix
degradation mediated by activated transcription factors nuclear
factor-kappaB and activator protein-1 in inflammatory acne lesions
in vivo.

The authors found that certain cellular components, classified
as transcription factors called nuclear factor-kappaB and activator
protein-1 are activated in acne lesion. These transcription factors
then cause increased activity of inflammatory cytokines and matrix-degrading
metalloproteinases, which cause inflammation and collagen degradation,
respectively.
The authors suggest that these transcription factors can be target
of drug development for treatment of severe acne.
