Cost Effectiveness of Diavobet vs. Tacalcitol
for Prosiasis
Title: Cost-effectiveness of once-daily treatment
with calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate followed by calcipotriol
alone compared with tacalcitol in the treatment of Psoriasis vulgaris.
Authors: Peeters P, et al.
Publication: Dermatology. 2005;211(2):139-45.
The authors wanted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of once-daily
Diavobet (betamethasone dipropionate and calcipotriol in ointment
form) for 4 weeks + calcipotriol for 4 weeks for psoriasis, as
compared to tacalcitol for 8 weeks.
They performed an 8-week double-blind clinical trial in France,
and calculated the total medical cost for the two treatments above
(including all psoriasis treatment cost, adverse side effects
and costs of subsequent medications). They found although the
Diavobet is costlier, that the total direct medical cost were
actually comparable:

Over 8 weeks, the authors found that Daivobet was more effective
and less costly than tacalcitol for treating psoriasis.
