Fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-mediated pathways are implicated in the pathogenesis or disease development of psoriasis. The authors proposed that targeting FGF signals might be useful in treatment of psoriasis.

The authors reported a case study of treating a 43-year old man with plaque psoriasis every day with dobesilate topical treatment. Dobesilate is a FGF inhibitor. As early as day 14, the patients had cleared or achieved improvement in psoriasis lesions.

The authors concluded that dobesilate offered a potential for treatment of plaque psoriasis without any side effects associated with topical corticosteroids.
