Prognostic Factors for Psoriasis

Title: Prognostic factor analysis for plaque psoriasis.
Authors
: Sakai R, et al.
Publication: Dermatology. 2005;211(2):103-6.

The authors wanted to identify prognostic factors that could predict the long-term outcome after diagnosis of psoriasis. They reviewed data from 169 patients with an average follow-up time of 11.6 years.

The authors found that the following factors have statistically significant effect on long-term prognosis after diagnosis:

  • Age greater or equal to 40 years
  • Male gender
  • Body Mass Index greater or equal to 25

The authors suggested that these prognostic factors may be useful in the design of future clinical trials for psoriasis and in the selection of the appropriate therapy for individual patients.
