The authors wanted to evaluate the efficacy of triptolide tablet
in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. They enrolled 103 patients,
and measured the PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index) score
before and after treatment.
The authors found that:
- 41 patients (39.7%) were evaluated as markedly effective
- 37 patients (35.8%) were evaluated as improved
- 25 patients (24.5%) had no improvement
The total effective rate is 75.7% and adverse side effect was
shown only in few patients with decreased white blood cell (WBC)
count during the treatment period. A follow up was conducted one
year later.
The author concluded that triptolide tablet was effective for
the treatment of psoriasis.
Editor’s Note: Triptolide is a constituent of
an immunosuppressive Chinese herbal medicine, and has been reported
to suppress the body’s immune system and can inhibit autoimmune
disorders, graft rejection, and graft-vs-host disease.
